        Rakhi Pournami
The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread, by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her as she presents sweets to him. The brother and sister traditionally feed one another sweets. Since north Indian kinship practices give cousins a status similar to siblings, girls and women often tie the rakhi to their male cousins as well (referred to as "cousin-brothers" in regional parlance) in several communities. Unrelated boys and men who are

considered to be brothers can be tied rakhis, provided they commit to a lifelong obligation to provide protection to the woman or girl. Additionally, in cases when a sister is out of town, then another sister or cousin may tie a second Rakhi in her place.

Relationships are the essence of any festivity and it holds true for any Indian festival. Each occasion brings the family together which calls for a celebration. Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of one such relation - that of a brother and a sister. This relationship is no where so celebrated as in India. Raksha Bandhan is a festival which celebrates the bond of affection between brothers and sisters. It is a day when siblings pray for each others' well being and wish for each others' happiness and goodwill.

Rakhi Celebration

A beautiful festival to celebrate the beautiful relationship that a brother and sister share: that is Rakhi. Feasting, merry making, gifting are the highlights of the day, together with the inherent religious elements. The celebration starts with prayers, applying Vermillion marks on the brother's forehead, the tying of the Rakhi by the sister. The brother in turn promises protection for his sister and presents a gift to his lovely sister. The big celebration thus begins... Hanuman
The Rakhi festival is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravan. On this auspicious day sisters tie the sacred Rakhi on their brothers' right wrists and pray for their long life. Though the Raksha Bandhan has the same significance and meaning but it is celebrated in different forms in different parts of India. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, different kinds of Rakhis are available in the market. Some Rakhis are made of silken, golden and silver threads and studded with semi precious stones, while the others are simple and sober with just a piece of string.
